Frequently asked questions

1. What is mead?

Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting a honey and water mixture with yeast. It’s sometimes called “honey wine,” but unlike wine, the main fermentable sugar comes from honey instead of grapes.

2. How does mead taste?

The flavour of mead depends on the honey used and any added ingredients. White Morph meads are crisp, refreshing, and not overly sweet — more like a sparkling cider or a craft beer than a dessert wine.

3. Is mead beer or wine?

Mead is its own category of alcohol. It’s not beer (no made from grains) and not wine (no grapes). Mead is honey-based, often enjoyed by craft beverage drinkers who like beer, cider, or natural wines.

4. Is mead gluten free?

Yes. Mead is naturally gluten free because it’s made from honey, water, and yeast rather than barley, wheat, or rye.

5. What’s the alcohol percentage in mead?

Most meads range from 5% to 14% ABV. White Morph meads are sessionable, currently sitting between 5% and 9% ABV, depending on the style.

6. Does mead taste sweet?

Not always. Mead can be dry, semi-dry, or sweet depending on fermentation. Our Sparkling Sour Mead and Dry Hopped Mead are both crafted to be dry and refreshing — not sugary.

7. How should I serve mead?

White Morph Mead in a can is best served chilled, similar to cider or beer. Sparkling meads are typically served straight from the fridge and higher ABV mead (wine style) are usually served at room temperature.

8. What food pairs well with mead?

Sparkling and dry meads pair beautifully with cheese, seafood, light salads, spicy dishes, and anything you’d normally enjoy with a crisp cider or craft beer.

9. Where can I buy mead in Australia?

Mead isn’t always easy to find in Australia but you can order White Morph Mead directly from our online shop.
